City seeks input on its housing development
The goal of the effort to help a shovel-ready development is to accelerate housing production and to address local housing needs, according to a news release from the City of Palmdale. The project site, at East Avenue R-12 and 27th Street East, includes 45 parcels.
New hotel coming to Palmdale after OK from city planners
PALMDALE — A 120-room hotel got the go-ahead, Oct. 13, when the Palmdale Planning Commission approved a Conditional Use Permit and Site Plan Review for the project. The hotel, part of the TownePlace Suites chain by Marriott, will be on a 2.53-acre site at Trade Center Drive and West Avenue P-4.
Council approves funding for new SAVES facility
PALMDALE — The South Antelope Valley Emergency Services, better known as SAVES, will be able to move to a larger home, after the City Council approved the funding for purchase of a new site.

LANCASTER — After an approximately one-month delay, the Planning Commission approved a tentative tract map for a proposed subdivision of approximately 27 acres at the northeast corner of Fifth Street East and Avenue H-8 into 111 single-family residential lots.
Virgin Galactic adds land to 55-year lease
MOJAVE — Virgin Galactic will continue to have a presence at the Mojave Air and Space Port, even after announcing a new manufacturing facility in Arizona. The company has had operations at the airport since its beginning, leasing the land for its FAITH manufacturing and assembly hangar, as well as rocket test stands and additional office and other facilities.
High-speed rail EIR available for viewing
PALMDALE — The draft Environmental Impact Report for the segment of the planned California High-Speed Rail system between Palmdale and Burbank is available for public review and comment.

LANCASTER — The Lancaster Planning Commission continued a public hearing for a proposed tentative tract map for a subdivision of approximately 27 gross acres into 111 single-family residential lots at the northeast corner of Fifth Street East and Avenue H-8 to allow more time for the applicant to re-notice neighbors.
Sprouts Farmers Market hiring 100 employees for new Palmdale location
PALMDALE – Sprouts Farmers Market will open its Palmdale location on Oct. 28, and the grocer is looking to hire 100 full- and part-time workers for the new location, the company announced.
Homes 4 Families gets a boost
PALMDALE — The Homes 4 Families Veteran Enriched Neighborhood got a big boost in funding with a $2.7 million check from Assemblyman Tom Lackey. The nonprofit organization is building a 56-home veteran community at 38100 Division St., across the street from Palmdale Learning Plaza.
City expanding informational maps contract
CALIFORNIA CITY — The city will expand the existing contract with an engineering firm to make informational maps easily available to developers and members of the public to facilitate planning efforts. The existing contract with Arrow Engineering Services is for GIS mapping of the city’s water and sewer lines. The expansion, for $25,000, will add computer monitors with access to the mapping for people to use at the Building and Planning department counters.
AVEK develops another water bank
PALMDALE — Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency is developing another water bank, in which surplus water imported from Northern California, through the State Water Project, is stored underground, to be retrieved as needed, through wells. The High Desert Water Bank is on a 1,500-acre site on the Valley’s western side, roughly between 280th Street West and 300th Street West and between the California Aqueduct and Avenue A.
School buses to go electric
LANCASTER — The Antelope Valley Schools Transportation Agency and BYD will bring 20 battery-electric school buses to students in the Antelope Valley, according to a joint announcement. The yellow school buses will be built in Lancaster at the BYD Coach & Bus facility.
Council OKs $6.4 million project
PALMDALE — The City Council approved contracting for the Civic Center streets project for $6.4 million. The project area encompasses Ninth and 10th Street East and avenues Q-9 and Q-12. This intersection, 10th Street East and Avenue Q-9, will feature one of the four roundabouts in the area to help control traffic and provide pedestrian crossing.
Groundbreaking for new well in Palmdale
PALMDALE — The Palmdale Water District marked the development of a new water supply point with a groundbreaking for a new well, the first drilled by the District in more than 30 decades. District staff and officials recently gathered at the site of Well 36, near 15th Street East and north of Rancho Vista Boulevard. The new well is expected to be in operation by early next year, officials said.
Palmdale set to join high-speed rail JPA
PALMDALE — The City Council approved joining a revamped Joint Powers Agency for a High Desert Corridor between the Antelope and Victor valleys. The Council, on Wednesday, voted 3-0. The vote brings Palmdale into the High Desert Corridor Joint Powers Agency, joining Los Angeles County and the cities of Lancaster, Adelanto and Victorville in the organization to help usher in the transportation corridor, specifically a proposed high-speed rail between stations in Palmdale and Apple Valley, connecting to Las Vegas.

PALMDALE — The Palmdale Planning Commission, tonight, will consider the Avenue Q Complete Streets study, which lays out a transportation blueprint for the transit corridor that connects to a planned future high-speed rail station.
Council OKs Joint Powers Agreement
LANCASTER — The Lancaster City Council, at the June 14 meeting, approved a Joint Powers Agreement to create the High Desert Corridor Joint Powers Agency between Los Angeles County, LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the cities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Lancaster, Palmdale and Victorville to accommodate San Bernardino County’s withdrawal from the existing High Desert Joint Powers Authority.
Residents asked for input on rec center
PALMDALE — Antelope Valley residents are invited to provide input on what a proposed regional recreation center should include and where it should be. One of two joint projects in partnership with the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster, the Palmdale Regional Recreational Complex is proposed as an approximately 100,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that will offer year-round, indoor opportunities for social interaction, learning, fun and fitness, according to the staff report.
City approves hotel
PALMDALE — The Planning Commission approved a new hotel to be built adjacent the Edwards Federal Credit Union on 10th Street West. The proposed four-story, 122-room Woodspring Suites hotel would be off West Avenue O-8, between the credit union and the Fairfield Inn and Suites.
AV College to purchase six parcels of open land
LANCASTER — The Antelope Valley Community College District will spend $9 million to purchase six vacant parcels of vacant land west of Brent Carder Marauder Stadium.
